Melanie Martin
Hi! I’m Mel. I’m a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® located in Nashville and I offer private individual and team mental performance coaching to athletes of all ages, levels, and sports. Here are some things to know about my approach before anything else: I think that athletes are people first and that you know yourself and your sport better than anyone. I'm all about working collaboratively with you so we can find a solution that fits your specific situation. Sport psychology isn’t a one-size-fits all. It’s science/evidence-based for a reason and the needed techniques and skills vary when applied to each athlete’s life. I believe that our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are all linked and have more power than we realize. I wholeheartedly do not believe in the exploitation of athletes. I'm all about protecting your privacy, peace of mind, and progress. I know that behavior change takes time and that your relationship with your mental performance professional is most important. Finding your right fit is key and this isn’t a one-and-done process. I’m a part of your support system and I’m here for the long haul. I don't just work with athletes—I work with parents, coaches, stay-at-home-moms, anyone looking for someone to help them build a routine, work on consistency, stop the anxiety thought spirals, or help with performance anxiety among many other things. Now here’s a little bit about me, Mel the person! I’m 29, a professional dogsitter (because duh dogs), and the oldest of 4 siblings. I moved around a lot growing up—mostly the east coast and I’m back in Nashville where my family’s lived since I was a senior in high school. I went to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga for undergrad and got my bachelor’s in psychology. When I was a junior there I found out the field of sport psychology existed and couldn’t imagine anything more perfect for me to do. One of my biggest interests is the psychology of injury and why some people quit and others go right back. I graduated in May of 2020 from Florida State University with my master’s in sport psychology and started a private practice that July. I’m a big fan of traveling, reading, exercise, the beach, dogs, and have recently tapped back into my love of painting. I’m always looking for good tv show and travel recs. My goal with my clients is to help you get better at what you’re working towards both in life and sport. I’m a big believer in learning how to be kind to yourself and progress > perfection. The goal is to improve in a healthy, holistic, and sustainable way. If that’s your vibe I’d love to work with you!
